Ezekiel’s Vision of Restored Kingdom of Israel: Valley of Dry Bones

Of Two Sticks and Dry Bones
(Updated 3/21/17)
BY LEVI
.
For months now, I, the scribe, have resisted writing an article on Ezekiel chapters 37 through 39 which cover the prophet’s “Valley of Dry Bones” vision and the coming Gog and Magog war with Israel. Although I find the chapters interesting by the fact that they add additional information for our panoramic perspective of biblical prophecy, their contents are so straight forward that I have never considered them needful of a lengthy exegesis for knowledgeable Bible students. MOTS articles specifically cover mysteries of the Scriptures, including prophetic parables in biblical stories, similitudes of Christ, types of the citizenry “Bride” of the coming Kingdom, and parallels and correlations from Old Covenant to New Covenant passages- things that generally go unnoticed by most Bible readers. Hence, the unification message in the midst of the Book of Ezekiel is not something that I would normally write about.
.
Nonetheless, popular theologians and prophecy enthusiasts have a peculiar way of distorting and misapplying all Scriptures, even the simplest passages, and, unfortunately, the vision of the dry bones and coming Gog and Magog war have suffered such misinterpretations and suppositions. Specifically, the Gog and Magog war that the Book of Revelation clearly places after the Great Sabbath millennium of Christ (see Rev. 20:6-10), they attempt to squeeze into Bible prophecy before or during the Apocalypse’s tribulations, which precede the millennium of Messiah.
.
Further, Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of bones and message of two sticks united as one, many televangelists and theologians have mistakenly counted accomplished with Jews returning to recreate the nation of Israel, after their Diaspora (c. 70 C.E./A.D. to 1917 C.E./A.D.). The prophetic message, however, concerns the two ancient nations, composed of all twelve Israelite tribes and raised from the dead as nations, united into one Kingdom.
.
Thus, it not just a vision of Hebrews from the tribes of Judah, Levi, and Benjamin coming together for the Holy Kingdom- those who are collectively called Jews from the House of Judah (the southern nation). The northern tribes of the House of Israel, which went into Assyrian Captivity circa 722 B.C.E. and lost their Israelite identities, must also be restored. This event has yet to occur. Today, the modern nation of Israel consists of two and a half tribes, and lost Israelites/Christians have not been brought in to restore the rest as prophecies throughout the Bible foretell.
.
Again, several popular evangelical pastors, prophecy preachers, and messianic Jews teach that Russia (i.e., Gog and Magog) will first start a war with Israel and suffer defeat before the Antichrist’s war with the tiny nation. Hence, they see Russia’s involvement in protecting Syria (Bashar al-Assad’s government) as a likely beginning of the prophesied war. Because Damascus is supposed be destroyed and left in ruins before the millennium of Christ, according to Bible prophecy, they inject the Gog and Magog war into their tribulations eschatology.
.
To reiterate, the first point that I am making is that the Gog and Magog war is after the millennium, and I will again show this from relevant passages as we explore the details given in Ezekiel. There will be wars and rumors of wars before and during the Apocalypse, and Russia and eastern nations will most likely be involved in them, but that fact does not justify prophecy enthusiasts confusing and distorting passages that clearly belong elsewhere, in another age that is over a millennium away.
.
The second of the two main points in writing this article is that the Ingathering harvest of the rest of Israel will be hindered if Bible-believers accept the false teaching that the two sticks- Judah and Israel- were already reunited at the return of Jews to the Holy Land, after their Diaspora. Jewish believers, according to Scripture, are like the Firstfruits of the spiritual harvest of God, but the Feast of Ingathering (also called the Feast of Tabernacles) alludes to a variety of spiritual crops gathered from all peoples into the Jewish Firstfruits. This is important because the message of a gathering of faithful Christians for the coming Kingdom of Messiah is not being taught.
.
Ezekiel Chapter 36
.
Before we take a closer look at chapters 37 through 39 of Ezekiel, we will first summarize Chapter 36, establishing the fact that most of us can agree that the prophecies concerning a national restoration begin after the Jewish Diaspora. In this chapter we will find the land of Israel in the possession of surrounding nations, many of which boasted that the nation of Israel was a thing of the past- fitting with the Replacement Theology of Catholics, Muslims, and many Protestant denominations of Christianity. For over 18 centuries most religious people were quite sure of this, even many rabbis of Judaism, for Jews were scattered around the world without a national homeland, the ten northern tribes had lost their national identity, and recreating a holy nation in its original location was a seemingly impossible feat. In fact, it had never been done before in the history of the world- not after centuries of a nation destroyed, left to other cultures, and its citizens scattered all over the world. Only the most devoted and ardent believers in Bible prophecy resisted the temptation to ignore, or spiritualize away, the prophecies of Israel’s return.
.
“And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say, ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD [Elohim YHVH]: “Because the enemy has said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient [infinite] heights have become our possession,’”’ therefore prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because they [the nations]  made you desolate and swallowed you up on every side [Rome’s Tenth Legion siege of 68-70 A.D., followed by the Ottoman Empire], so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations [during Diaspora], and you are taken up [become ridiculed] by the lips of the talkers [theologians, philosophers, babblers of Babylon] and slandered by the people”- ‘therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, the valleys, the desolate wastes, and the cities that have been forsaken, which became plunder and mockery to the rest of the nations all around [surrounding regions]- therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Surely I have spoken in My burning jealousy [or fiery zeal] against the rest of the nations and against all Edom [Jordan], who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with wholehearted joy and spiteful minds [hatred of Hebrews], in order to plunder its open country [e.g., open grazing of goatherds].”’ Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, and the valleys [symbolic of the exalted and powerful, the bold, the spiritually refreshing with the Word, and the meek of the land], ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and My fury, because you have borne the shame [ridicule] of the nations.” Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “I have raised My hand in an oath that surely the nations that are around you shall bear their own shame. But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches [grow from the root and stem of the faith] and yield your fruit [symbolic of spiritual food] to My people Israel, for they are about to come. For indeed I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown [be broken-up in trials and reestablished in the land]. I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel [nation of Israel, all 12 tribes]; and the cities shall be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt. I will multiply upon you man and beast; and you shall increase and bear young [become reproductively fruitful]; I will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginnings. Then you shall know that I am the LORD [YHVH].”’” (Ezek. 36:1-11) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
From the passage above, clearly all of the original Kingdom of Israel is promised a restoration, not merely the House of Judah– the former nation of Jews in the south. Prophet Ezekiel was among the earliest captives sent into Babylonian Captivity, c. 596 B.C., but his prophecies looked beyond the return of Jews to the Holy Land c. 536 B.C. Indeed, he prophesied of the Third Temple that has yet to be built, and, as we shall see, he predicted the coming of Messiah to reign over one Kingdom of all Israelite tribes.
.
When Jews returned from ancient Babylon, the glory was never restored as at the beginning of the nation, and what they built certainly did not surpass the united kingdom years of King Saul, King David, and King Solomon. Further, the ten northern tribes of Israelites did not return with Jews (i.e., Judah, Levi, and half tribe of Benjamin), for they were scattered all over the world much earlier during the Assyrian Captivity of c. 722 B.C., leaving only the citizens of Judah in the land for over a century before the Babylonian Captivity.
.
Although certain aspects of the above passage can certainly be applied to the return from Babylon in the Spirit of dual prophetic fulfillment, the hermeneutical gist of it cannot be expounded without both the return of northern Israel as well as the end of the long Jewish Diaspora. The full restoration of the glorious Kingdom comes under Messiah.
.
As we continue in Chapter 36, we find that the “taunts” and “reproach of nations,” which God is ending among the religious debaters, is associated with the fact that His people have stumbled, and the prophecy predicts that He will not allow them “to stumble anymore” (see 36:15). The stumbling of Israel, specifically Jews, is important because Prophet Isaiah (among others) explained that Jews would stumble over both religious idolatry and the identity of Christ, as a Stumblingblock and Stumblingstone of their faith (cf. Isa. 8:14-15; 28:7; Jer. 6:21; Dan. 11:19; Rom. 9:32-33; 11:9-11; 1 Pet. 2:8). According to correlating prophecies, it is only during the time that Prophet Elijah restores the hearts of the fathers of the faith to the children, and vise versa, that the Stumblingstone of Christ is lifted and exalted as His way is prepared for the righteous people. (N.B. Although I tire of writing about Prophet Elijah, seeing that we each have our own part in preparing for the Kingdom, the restoration that Prophet Ezekiel prophesied about cannot be fully discerned without knowing his role in preparing the people.)
.
At the time of Elijah’s restoration, they will know that Yeshua was not among the pagan idols in which Israel stumbled over, but He is the Source of their inheritance and deliverance in the Holy Kingdom. Jews stumbled over Christ because they collectively rejected Him, not because some saw the Light and embraced His ministry.
.
“And of whom have you [Jews] been afraid, or feared, that you have lied and not remembered Me, nor taken it to your heart? Is it not because I have held My peace from of old that you do not fear Me? I will declare your righteousness and your works [religious deeds], for they will not profit you. When you cry out, let your collection [pantheon of deities or material deeds] deliver you. But the wind [whirlwind of Spiritual truths] will carry them all away, a breath will take them. But he who puts his trust in Me [YHVH] shall possess the land, and shall inherit My holy mountain [Zion, Jerusalem].” And one shall say, “Heap it up! Heap it up! Prepare the way, Take the stumbling block out of the way of My people.” For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the heart of the contrite ones. For I will not contend [strive with the people] forever, nor will I always be angry; for the spirit would fail before Me, and the souls which I have made.” (Isa. 57:11-16) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
Back to the Book of Jeremiah, we find that God “scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the countries; [He] judged them according to their ways and their deeds,” not just because of their manmade idols but also because of their distorted religious deeds that did not profit them. Further, they “profaned [His] holy name” and caused the nations wherein they were scattered to mock Israel and their loss of the Holy Land (see 36:19-20). Still, a restoration was promised, only it would not be for the sake of the House of Israel or even the House of Judah, but for God’s own concern over His name and land which have been profaned among the nations. When He brings back all the people and restores the Kingdom of Israel, as in the beginning, then the nations will learn that Elohim YHVH is indeed God (see 36:21-24)- not Allah or any other false deity in the region.
.
Thus far, this work of restoration is not complete. Although Jews have indeed returned to the Holy Land and rebuilt many cities out of ruins, and a united nation called Israel has been restored, the people of the Holy Land have not been washed by the blood of the New Covenant, and the people of the northern tribes and Gentile Christians have not been ingathered for the completion of prophecy. Atheists, blasphemers, homosexuals, and idolaters are mixed in with the faithful and true in Israel, and oneness of the people- with a holy heart towards the works and Word of God- has yet to manifest in the Holy Land. Jews will accept the New Covenant of the heart as promised by Prophet Jeremiah:
.
“Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel [northern nation of the Holy Land] and with the house of Judah [southern nation of the Holy Land]- not according to the [old] covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt [Exodus covenant under Moses], My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel [all Israelites] after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts [inward being]; and I will be their God [Elohim], and they shall be My people.” (Jer. 31:31-32) NKJV; intrpl. & emp. mine
.
How do I know that the Old Covenant Law is not written in the Jewish collective heart and mind? Because every aspect of the Law and Prophets confesses Yeshua HaMashiach as their awaited Great King and Deliverer. Moreover, many religious Jews superbly know the letter of the Law, and they practice the commandments in extreme measures and by tedious deeds of religious observance, but they remain internally blind to the Substance of the shadows that were given to profess Him. This fact returns us to correlations in the Book of Ezekiel, for the restoration of the Kingdom cannot be fulfilled without acceptance of Mashiach ben David’s New Covenant cleansing.
.
Consider how the passage from Prophet Jeremiah, concerning the New Covenant, correlates with the below passage of Prophet Ezekiel:
.
“For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. Then I will sprinkle clean water [refreshing, clear Scriptures] on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit [Holy Spirit] within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh [Egyptian stone-heart beetle for religious deception in afterlife judgment] and give you a heart of flesh [living heart]. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God.” (Ezek. 36:24-28) NKJV; intrpl. & emp. mine
.
As for the work:
.
“Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD [YHVH]. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse [lit. utter destruction].” (Mal. 4:4-6) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
From the passages above, we know that all has not been restored simply because the nation of Israel is again extant. The gathering of the nation by Jews is but a tremendous first step towards the restored Kingdom under Messiah. The faithful among Christians will also be gathered into the Holy Land for the restoration of all tribes (see 2 Thess. 2:1). This full restoration of the Kingdom of Israel is what the apostles awaited throughout Christ’s ministry, even unto His ascension and beyond (see Acts 1:6). There remains a restoration of all things that was not completed in the days of Christ’s ministry and the preaching of John the Baptist, and there remains a Great Sabbath millennium for the faithful (see Heb. 4:1-10). Anyone who claims that all these things have already been restored is either a liar for his or her denominational eschatology or simply self-deceived and without full comprehension of prophetic Scriptures.
.
“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world [world-age] began.” (Acts 3:19-21) NKJV; intrpl. & emp. mine
.
Once the New Covenant is accepted by Jews, and a new Spirit is put in the collective heart of the nation, the desolate land will become as “the garden of Eden,” and all nations will know that God has indeed performed all of the works to make it occur (see 36:34-36).  In that day, the righteous of the Kingdom will multiply and fill all of the rebuilt cities, expanding the boundaries of their Kingdom inheritance to the original promises that were given to the twelve tribes. Then the rest of the nations will look upon the people of Israel like the holy flocks of old that were separated unto God for His moedim sacrifices (36:38). And in that day there will be no doubts, for all the people of the Holy Land will know their God and discern the wonderful works in which He has done through Messiah.
.
With these things in mind, we shall proceed this month to extricate the exegetical mess that theologians have made over chapters 37 and 38 of the Book of Ezekiel, concerning the vision of the valley of dry bones, the two sticks becoming one kingdom in the prophet’s hand, the Great Sabbath Millennium of Messiah, and, finally, the final war of Gog and Magog on the great Shemini Atzereth– the 8th millennial day- of God’s G.W.T.J. judgment of all nations.
.
New Garden of Eden During Sabbath Millennium
.
Before we get to the vision of the valley of dry bones, first the LORD prepares us by showing where His restoration of the entire Kingdom of Israel will lead. The passage below plainly points to the Great Sabbath and coming glory of Israel. It will be so complete that even the surrounding Muslim nations- those left after the Apocalypse- will know the Truth and acknowledge that the restoration of Israel is the work of Elohim YHVH; this has not happened yet:
.
“I [Elohim YHVH] will deliver you [all of Israel] from all your uncleannesses [atonement through Christ]. I will call for the grain and multiply it, and bring no famine upon you. And I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you never again bear the reproach of famine among the nations. Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations. Not for your sake do I do this,” says the Lord GOD, “let it be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house Israel!” Thus says the Lord GOD: “On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins [desolations of the Diaspora and perhaps after the Apocalypse] shall be rebuilt. The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by. So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited. Then the nations which are left [after the Apocalypse] all around you [i.e., Muslim nations] shall know that I, the LORD [YHVH], have spoken it [prophesied], and I will do it.”- Creator of the Universe (Ezek. 36:29-36) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
Thus far, we have seen the land beautified with the return of Jews and the reestablishment of the nation of Israel. Indeed, many of the ancient towns and cities have been rebuilt. However, Israel has not become as fruitful and beautiful as the Garden of Eden, nor have surrounding nations acknowledged that all of their works are according to the work, will, and Word of God. Nor has Israel atoned for all sins and trespasses, which cannot come without their hearts being turned back to the ancient faith, to know and believe in the acceptable sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
.
Thus says the Lord GOD: “I will  also let the house of Israel inquire of Me to do this for them: I will increase their men like a flock. Like a flock offered as holy sacrifices, like the flock at Jerusalem on its feasts days [moedim], so shall the ruined cities be filled with flocks of men [flock of the Good Shepherd]. Then shall they know that I am the LORD [YHVH].” (Ezek. 36:37-38) NKJV; intrpl. mine
Two things are pointed out: that God’s people will be like an increased flock, separated and holy at Jerusalem, and then they will know who the LORD is- meaning that Israelites will not recognize their Savior and Deliverer until they the nation is greatly increased and their prayers are heard after they inquire of Him. Their holiness as a flock for God is correlated with the moedim (appointed times) feasts of Jerusalem, remembering the Torah of Moses. With all this in mind, we will proceed to consider the vision of the House of Israel and the House of Judah united in the hand of the prophet. Hence, we look to work of all tribes restored for the Kingdom of Messiah.
.
Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones
.
After the Lord YHVH prophesied that Israel will be rebuilt with the flock of God increased, atoned for, and made holy, with surrounding Muslim nations confessing that the Word of God is true, and the land of Israel made like the Garden of Eden, the Lord YHVH’s hand then came upon Prophet Ezekiel and caught him up in a spiritual vision- setting him down to rest in a valley of dry bones. Then, the LORD caused the prophet to roam about and look closely and perceive how dry the bones were.
.
Then the LORD asked him a question, saying, “Son of man, can these bones live?” With that, the prophet said, “O Elohim YHVH, You know.” The question is, ‘Can the dead be raised?’ Another question might be, ‘Can God restore and resurrect the fathers and mothers of the ancient faith for a new and glorious Kingdom?’ This brings us to Hosea Chapters Five and Six, where God said that He would be as a “young Lion to the House of Judah,” and He would return to Heaven until they acknowledged their offense; thereafter, He would raise them up on the third millennial day since the Lion of Judah returned to Heaven (i.e., after 2,000 years from the cross). Hence, all of the prophecies of blessing coming to the restored Kingdom of Israel are tied-into acknowledging the cross of Yeshua HaMashiach. The resurrection of the nation and resurrection unto life come by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, as well as the national atonement of Israel. That’s when they will all finally know the Lord YHVH as manifest through His righteous Right Arm (see Hos. 6:3), and His arrivals are like the former and latter rains of the harvest season (i.e., two arrivals). Him they must become humble like a valley to perceive these spiritual things and enter into God’s rest- His Sabbath.
.
Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live [NB: God says that they shall live more than once]. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.”‘” So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling [shaking]; and the bones came together, bone to bone. Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them. (Ezek. 37:4-8) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
The key to the restoration of glorious Kingdom of Israel, of all tribes and the Holy Land expanded to the prophesied allotment to the Euphrates, is preaching with the prophecies of God’s Word. However, bringing the bones together and uniting them as individuals is not of itself enough for true life before God. There must be prophesying in the Holy Spirit, with the breath of God, for the people to inhale the Spirit for themselves. The Holy Spirit must be asked to enter the flock of God, with all the elect brought in from the four corners of the world- the Ingathered with the Firstfruits. Hence, there must be a second period of prophecy to form the Army of God.
Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath [Spirit], prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath [Spirit, Breath of Life], ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Come from the four winds, O breath [Spirit], and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”‘” So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath [Spirit] came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel [all tribes of Jacob]. They indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off [from the nation]!’ Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves.'” (Ezek. 37:9-13) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
According to several prophecies of the New Testament, there will be a resurrection of beheaded martyrs, slain during the Apocalypse (see Rev. 20:4-6), and they will reign with the Messiah in the Sabbath millennium. Nonetheless, we should consider that Apostle Paul saw the awaited day of Jews accepting Christ, as a nation, as a resurrection:
.
If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are of my flesh [Jewish], and might save some of them. For if the casting away of them [wrath of faithlessness] be the reconciling of the world [that people in all other nations are saved], what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? (Rom. 11:14-15) KJV; intrpl. mine
.
There are several ways to consider the valley prophesy being fulfilled, even the possibility of bone marrow some day utilized for DNA in resurrecting the dead, but the main point is that God would resurrection the entire nation in glory. Some people might assert that the vision is already fulfilled, with Israel as a nation once more in the Promised Land. However, God provides us a second demonstration to know that it concerns all tribes of Israel being joined under the Messiah. A nation shall become a Kingdom, and the Kingdom will be as the Garden of Eden.
.
Two Sticks Becoming One
.
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: ‘For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.’ Then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.’ Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand.” (Ezek. 37:15-17) NKJV
.
The prophecy of the two sticks may confuse some Bible readers, because the northern nation of Israel was also called “Ephraim” (one of Joseph’s two sons) in Scriptures. After King Solomon, son of King David, ten tribes of Israel were separated from the southern nation of Judah. For that reason, I simplified the message of the two sticks in the feature image. The basic message is that the two divided kingdoms of all Israelite tribes would someday be reunited- a reconciliation for the coming of Messiah and His everlasting Kingdom.
.
See (d) Slanted Split Along Grain

On a personal note, the Messiah came to me, the scribe of these articles, in a dream, and He had a table leg split along the wood grain into two. When I asked how I might help Him, He looked at a list of names in his hands, which had two separated at the top, then said, “Restore this.”

A group of people waited nearby to be seated for dining, and Christ brought the tools I needed to accomplish the task. I understood that two peoples who support God’s nourishing meals of Scripture must become one. Hence, the work is not really about any of us, it is about the Messiah and work that is in God’s hand: the work of uniting His people to restore all things. He waits the completion of the work to dine with His people on the marvelous and redemptive works of God- to share in scriptural meals.

And when the children of your people speak to you, saying, ‘Will you not show us what you mean by these?’- say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will join them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.”‘ And the sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes. Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king [Messiah] shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols [foreign gods], nor with detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.” (Ezek. 37:18-23) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
Today, we see Israel as one nation from north to south, but we would deceive ourselves to claim that all detestable things are no longer in the land- that Israelites do not defile themselves. The fact is, the land is defiled by blatant homosexuality, atheist blasphemy, hateful Muslims, and the same evils that plague other nations. So God goes further and specifies that it will be accomplished when they are cleansed and live under one King- the Mashiach ben David
.
“David My Servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt [even across the Jordan]; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, forever; and My servant David [beloved Messiah, see Ps. 2] shall be their prince forever. Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them [New Covenant, see Jer. 31:31-33], and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary [Temple] in their midst forevermore. My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people. The nations also will know that I, the LORD [YHVH], sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.” (Ezek. 37:24-27) NKJV; intrpl. mine
.
The “everlasting covenant” in the above passage is the same “everlasting covenant” that the Prophet Isaiah said that the nations of the world have broken, which brings about the plagues of the Apocalypse (see Isa. 24:4-6). The Old Covenant did not spread all over the world, bringing in Gentile converts from all nations. Rather, it has remained small and exclusionary to Jews. What this means is that all of Israel will soon accept the New Covenant and have their hearts turned back to the ancient faith that their fathers believed in- the coming atonement of Messiah.
.
Further, the Holy Temple has not been rebuilt, so it is impossible that the prophecies have already been fulfilled. It is important to comprehend all these things soon to come, because they prepare us for the Battle of Gog and Magog after the Great Sabbath millennium of Messiah. The New Covenant comes to all of Israel, with all the elect gathered in and purged of all abominations and transgressions. Messiah must come first, and the Holy Temple must be rebuilt, with the land blessed like the Garden of Eden; them comes the final war on the eighth millennial day, the Shemini Atzereth that we Christians know as the Great White Throne Judgment of God upon the entire world.

    • Thank you very much, and may the Holy Spirit be with you, too. Further, may He help me see more of my mistakes, without having to go back and edit so much. As it is, Brett, I think this article on Ezekiel will probably be my last- at least from a long while. I still have several article to edit and finish, such as the ones on Jericho and Esther. So I still have plenty to do even without writing more articles. Also, let us pray for a safe Christmas Eve this year, especially for southern California.
