In this third article on Yoseph (or Joseph), we will examine more of the biblical record of his life as a foreshadowing type of Yeshua the Messiah. In the last article we considered Yoseph’s revelations to the Pharaoh’s butler and baker, and how they came to pass on the third day. The former escaped judgment and served in the presence of his sun-king, and the latter was hung on a tree for his trespasses (see Gen. 40:19).

As previously explained, their fates serve as similitudes of the Great King Messiah’s coming judgment on the third millennial day (since The Passion). Those who do not receive forgiveness of their trespasses will have the price that Christ paid required of them (i.e., price of the cross)- thus, the likeness of the baker hung on the tree. Hence, two judgments are determined from our Yoseph’s  Book of Revelation.

For the butler, Yoseph asked but one thing, that the servant would be merciful and remember him when he returned to stand in the presence of his Egyptian lord (Gen. 40:14). This hints at the means of salvation we receive when we confess Christ before God- the true Sun-King– meaning of the title Pharaoh.

Nonetheless, the butler did not immediately remember Yoseph after he escaped the pit and death, just as many Christians have forgotten the message of Revelation over the centuries; it took another reminder at the end of two years (symbolizing two millennial days). Hence, in this article we will investigate things in which God reminding us of via His Word: the substance of the foreshadowing revelation of seven years of famine and tribulations approaching the ancient world. As written in Revelation, the book’s vision would be remembered, with prophesies given before kings in through various languages and nations (see Rev. 10:11). Simply put, the butler remembering Joseph’s revelations after two days points to Bible-believers prophesying about the Messiah and seven years of approaching tribulation, preaching into the third millennial day from the cross, when the true Savior of Israel is exalted on His millennial throne.
Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he stood by the river. Suddenly there came up out of the river seven cows, fine looking and fat; and they fed in the meadow. Then behold, sever other cows came up after them out of the river, ugly and gaunt [ill-favored], and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river. And the ugly and gaunt cows ate up the seven fine looking and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke. He slept and dreamed a second time; and suddenly seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, plump and good. Then behold, seven thin heads, blighted by the east wind, sprang up after them. And the seven thin heads devoured the seven plump and full heads. So Pharaoh awoke, and indeed, it was a dream. Although the pharaohs were often worshipped as living deities among Egyptians, his dreams troubled him so much that he awoke and pondered upon what they might symbolize. Much as King Nebuchadnezzar would later search for a wise interpreter of his Divinely-given vision, Pharaoh commanded that all magicians and great thinkers of Egypt appear before him to render an answer that could grant him peace of mind. And much like King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the Pharaoh failed to find an able man among his own people to interpret his dreams. Thus, a Hebrew would be called in who had the Spirit of the Living God within him.
Interestingly, that the butler said “I remember my faults this day” (see Gen. 40:9) as he recounted how Yoseph’s other interpretation of his dream revelations had come to pass. From a panoramic perspective, concerning all who are restored to stand in the presence of God, we (as foreshadowed by the butler) must remember our sins and the prophecies of the Messiah that have come to pass.

As we approach the seven years of the world Apocalypse, which the famine in the Egyptian world foreshadowed, many people are remembering scriptural revelations. Christians and Jewish believers are turning back to the Hebrew roots of biblical faith and discerning the deeps mysteries of Messiah.

Moreover, Pharaoh (in this article) symbolizes God’s concerns about the approaching world tribulations, and Joseph, called out of the prison to stand before him, symbolizes Christ being raised from the prison (see 1 Pet. 3:18-20; 4:6) to stand before God- with the books opened and the seals of Revelation broken by the only possible One, Messiah (cf. Dan. 7:10-14; Zech. 3:1-10; Rev. 5:5-14; 6; 7; 8:1). And, like the butler, we who serve God must only remember these things and profess truths of the Deliverer.
Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh. And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it.” So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me [not I]; God [Elohim] will give Pharaoh an answer in peace [well-being].” The Pharaoh said to Joseph: “Behold, in my dream I stood on the bank of the river. Suddenly seven cows came up out of the river, fine looking and fat; and they fed in the meadow. Then behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ugly and gaunt, such ugliness as I have never seen in all the land of Egypt. And the gaunt and ugly cows ate up the first seven, the fat cows. When they had eaten them up, no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were just as ugly as at the beginning. So I awoke. Also I saw in my dream, and suddenly seven heads [of grain] came up on one stalk, full and good. Then behold, seven heads, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprang up after them. And the the thin heads devoured the seven good heads. So I told this to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.” (Gen. 40:14-21) NKJV; intprl. mine

Notably, Yoseph explained that interpreting the Divine dreams was not of his own power but by Elohim working through him. It is also interesting that Pharaoh did not specifically mentioned the Nile River, which leads us considering if the river in his dream represents the River of Life- the water of God’s Word- bringing about the seven foreseen years of great famine and tribulations. As for Pharaoh (meaning sun-king) standing at the bank of the river, this also points to God witnessing revelations about the end of the age (cf. Dan. 8:15-26; 10:4-21; 12:5-13).

Clearly, all these things point to the multiple visions that John recorded in Revelation and the Messiah declaring the seven years of tribulations that will shortly come to pass (see Rev. 1:1).
Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God [Elohim] has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do: The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads [grain or corn] are seven years; the dreams are one. And the seven thin and ugly cows which came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty heads blighted by the east wind are seven years of famine. This is the thing which I have spoken to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do. Indeed seven years of great plenty will come throughout all the land of Egypt; but after them seven years of famine will arise, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine will deplete the land. So the plenty will not be known in the land because of the famine following, for it will be very severe. And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God [Elohim] will shortly bring it to pass.” (Gen. 40:25-32) NKJV; intrpl. & emp. mine
Yoseph then went on to instruct the Pharaoh on how to prepare for the seven years of tribulations. He was to appoint a leader and trusty officers to collect 1/5 of the corn, grain, and other produce of harvests during the seven plentiful years, storing them in city barns and storehouses for the week of famine. Then the land would not be “cut off” or perish (see 40:34-36).

While a tithe to God is 10% in Torah, Joseph had them gather 1/5 of the produce, which was double, because they would not be able to collect during the seven years of famine. This reveals that their gathering the harvest to Pharaoh was foreshadowing Israel tithing to God to save the land from a curse.

It is written: “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house [Temple], and try Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it” (Mal. 3:8-10 NKJV). Yet in Revelation the Substance of foreshadowing physical things is required, for the earth faces a curse of utter destruction if hearts are not turned back to the faith of the fathers (Mal. 4:6).

Christ became our tithe sacrifice unto God, crucified on the last day of ten days (6,000 + 4,000; see Moedim Paradigm). There is an earthly tithe of the harvests written in the shadows of the Law, but there is also the greater fulfillment in Christ, our Firstfruit. Although the world faces great woes in the coming week of years, God will gather His harvest of souls in His barn (see Matt. 13:30).
Moreover, Joseph correctly interpreted Pharaoh’s revelations of the night for his day in time, but we look to what is written in the shadows and bring forth the scriptural Substance, meaning that which was hidden in an ancient dream alluding to the greater messianic prophecies of things yet to come: Egypt is the world. The Nile River, which Egypt depends upon for life, is the water of God’s Word bringing life to the world. The cattle are the people of God, brought forth from the water of the Word. The fat cattle are Bible-believers who have grown elitists, violent towards the weak of the herds, indifferent to evil, and complacent rather than repentant. The thin cattle are the spiritually hungry and mistreated. As the thin cattle devoured the fat, the richness of believers around the world will be brought into lean Israel and to persecuted Christians when two faiths become one, and this oneness will be completed during the seven years of the Apocalypse. Again, even in harsh times, one people will be formed.
Looking back at the history of the Roman Church and the centuries of the Jewish Diaspora, it is not difficult to determine which group has been mostly fat cattle and which has been mostly lean. Who has been ravished and ostracized, pillaged and displaced throughout “Christendom”? Or have we forgotten millions of Jews who have been slaughtered in Germany, Russia, France, Italy, and elsewhere? Indeed, ghettos and concentration camps are not choice places for fat cats to grow lax and cattle to dine. We need only study the historical records that exist to this day, from the Fourth Lateran Council to the Spanish Inquisition, to Jews who were rounded-up, expelled, and slaughtered all over Europe and Russia.

Does this mean all Christians have eaten from the gravy train while all Jews chewed the cud? No, persecution has struck all peoples at some point in their history. This is merely a general assessment of the collective faith- one that most people can honestly conclude when looking back over the last two millenniums. In the first three centuries of the nascent Christian faith, devout Jews and Romans were no friends to persecuted Christianity, but the institution of Christianity became oppressive to Jewish people after pagan Rome converted under Constantine.

Further, an untold number of Protestant and independent Christians were slaughtered in the name of Roman Catholicism. In the end, however, only the Lord YHVH knows who is guilty, and he will judge between cattle and cattle, sheep and goats.
“And so, my brothers, our concern should be not only to live as we ought, but also to do so in the sight of men; not only to have a good conscience but also, so far as we can in our weakness, so far as we can govern our frailty, to do nothing which might lead our weak brother into thinking evil of us. Otherwise, as we feed on the good pasture and drink of the pure water, we may trample on God’s meadow, and weaker sheep will have to feed on trampled grass and drink from troubled waters.”- Sermon of Bishop Augustine, 354-430 AD
Again, we know from Scriptures that God will also judge between the shepherds who have grown fat while abandoning the herds and flocks:
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock. The diseased have not ye strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. And they were scattered, because there was no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, and they were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them. Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field [nation of the world], because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds [pastors]; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock [administering the Word]; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. And I will bring them out from the people [nations], and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall there fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. I will feed my flock, and will cause them to lie down [rest], saith the Lord GOD. I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment. And as for you, O my flock, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I judge between cattle and cattle, between the rams and the he goats. Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but ye tread down with your feet the residue of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but ye must foul the residue with your feet? And as for my flock, they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet; and they drink that which ye have fouled with your feet. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them; Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle. (Ezek. 34:1-20) KJV; intprl. mine
The Lord continues in Ezekiel to rebuke the shepherds, and promised to set up a single Shepherd called “David,” which suggests the “beloved” Mashiach ben David. Further, He promised the children of Israel a new “covenant of peace,” with the beasts (the devouring nations) cast out of the land of Israel. During this time He will make Zion a blessing with “showers of blessings,” fruitful and safe, with none of the nations in the land to make them afraid. Even more, God promises to return the Tree of Life and to be with them (see Ezek. 34:21-31).

No doubt, all these things concern Christ (the Good Shepherd) and the coming Day of YHVH, when hearts are turned back to the ancient faith. And for this reason it is written: “For, behold, the day is approaching, burning like a furnace…but for you who revere My name the Sun of Righteousness shall ascend with healing on His wings. And you shall leap out as stall-fed calves. You shall trample the wicked, for they will be as ashes under the hooves of your feet on the day that I do this” (see Mal. 4:1,2-3).

Remember, the fatted cattle get eaten as in the parable of the prodigal son, who turned back to his father (see Luke 15:17-23), but those who have been lean will be saved for a joyful age when the tribulations have passed.

There is much more that could be written, with numerous corresponding passages on the Good Shepherd, as well as much to be said about spiritual and physical famines during the coming Apocalypse, but in this articles we will close the comparisons with Yoseph being clothed in honor in glory, in likeness of the Messiah:

Thus, it is written, “To Him every knee shall bow.” Further, Christ said that “No man comes unto the Father” except by Him. In the story of Joseph we find these parallels, line upon line. There is nothing substantial that is missing or out-of-place, no error of commission or error of commission. And when the details are magnified, they only profess Christ all the more.

As Yohanon the Immerser (John the Baptist) explained of the Messiah, “He must increase, and I must decrease,” and this is true for all Bible-believers who seek to know the mysteries of the Word: We must lose ourselves and come to comprehend that the entire book was orchestrated by God as a testimony of Jesus Christ, in the Spirit of Prophecy.
